Eagles release statement confirming Michael Vick as starting quarterback

Michael Vick will still be under center when the Eagles play the Saints in Week 9.

Despite rampant speculation to the contrary, Michael Vick will remain the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles this week, according to Jason La Canfora.

The Eagles are 3-4, and Vick has been one of the main sources of blame for fans and media in the City of Brotherly Love. The quarterback still makes plays that can make even the most hardened fan gasp for air, but then he has the propensity to follow it up with a head-scratching turnover.

Head coach Andy Reid had alluded to some potential changes after Philadelphia's latest debacle against the Atlanta Falcons, but he appears now to be holding steady. The backup quarterback, Nick Foles, is only a rookie but he did look solid in the preseason. However, Reid knows his job is on the line as this season begins to get away from him.

The Eagles have a tough task this Monday, heading into the Superdome for a clash with the high-flying New Orleans Saints.
