Eagles Free Agency 2012: Trent Cole Signs 4-Year Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles took care of some important business today, signing defensive end Trent Cole to a four-year extension to keep him in green through the 2017 season.

Head coach Andy Reid understands just how valuable Cole is to this franchise.

"Trent plays the game with a level of tenacity that's hard to replicate," said Andy Reid. "He's one of the premier DEs in the league. We have always said that when you watch the tape, it's hard to tell the difference between his first play and his last play. And as good as he is rushing the passer, he is equally as good against the run. His energy is contagious on the field."

This is a big move for the Eagles, who are looking to bounce back from a disastrous 2011 season that saw the "Dream Team" go 8-8.

While Cole wasn't a free agent this year, the contract was a proactive move to make sure he doesn't slip through the cracks going forward.

Cole is without question a piece to the championship puzzle, so now Philly has one less problem to worry about in the future.
