NFL Free Agency Rumors: Evan Mathis Choosing Between Eagles And Ravens

The final piece of the Eagles “taking care of their own” plan this offseason would seem to be LG Evan Mathis. They picked him up on a 1 year veteran’s minimum deal last offseason and he went on to have a fantastic year, forming one of the most effective left sides in football with all pro Jason Peters. Due to a new rule in the CBA, the Eagles could not sign Mathis to an extension prior to the start of free agency, so he’s hit the open market.

He drew reported interest from the Colts and Buccaneers, but it was the Ravens who appear to have scored his only visit. Baltimore offered him what he described as “a nice deal” but he left town without signing. He told reporters that he would be flying home to Arizona to make his decision. Presumably, that’s between the Eagles and Ravens right now.

CSNPhilly’s Ruben Frank cited a league source which says that Eagles offered to beat the offer made by the Ravens. He also says that Mathis could make his decision as early as tonight.
