Michael Vick Speaks Out Against Cockfighting As Well

Since his release from prison and return to the NFL, Michael Vick has continued to do his penance for his part in the infamous dogfighting ring that led to his downfall. He's worked closely with the Humane Society doing tons of speaking engagements and being a part of scores of ad campaigns all to educate the public on the evils of dog fighting.

However, he's not just working to end dog fighting, but other kinds of animal cruelty as well. Along with the Humane Society, he released a statement this week criticizing the weak cockfighting law in Alabama.

Vick says in a statement Monday that Alabama's cockfighting law is the nation's "weakest" because the $50 fine is the maximum punishment. Vick has been outspoken against animal cruelty since he served 16 months in federal prison on a dog-fighting conviction.

A bill was before the state legislature to upgrade the fine to $6,000, but the state senate rules committee actually refused to vote on it.
