Philadelphia Eagles OTAs 2012: Trent Edwards On His Progress 'I Have A Long Way To Go'

Philadelphia Eagles veteran backup quarterback Trent Edwards spoke after practice on Thursday about his progress throwing the football in a new system.

Edwards said "There are times when I understand where I'm going with the ball and my footwork feels good, and then on the very next rep, that's not the case. I don't know when that is, and I wish I had an answer. I do feel like the mechanics here are enforced, which they should be at the quarterback position, and they are enforced here way more than what I have been through before. I'm just trying to tweek some things and have made some progress, but I have a long way to go."

Edwards did praise the Eagles' system and said that regardless of whoever the quarterback is, they have found success in it. "The quarterback position here always seems to succeed no matter who is out there, whether it's Donovan [McNabb], Mike Vick, Kevin Kolb - they flourish in this system. For me to sit and watch and learn the system, and to be around those coaches and players - there are weapons everywhere and it's just a matter of me doing my job, improving, and hopefully getting to where I need to be."

Ultimately, Edwards said he couldn't give a timetable on when he would be able to make plays without thinking about them. "There are times when I understand where I'm going with the ball and my footwork feels good, and then on the very next rep, that's not the case. I don't know when that is, and I wish I had an answer. I do feel like the mechanics here are enforced, which they should be at the quarterback position, and they are enforced here way more than what I have been through before. I'm just trying to tweek some things and have made some progress, but I have a long way to go."

Edwards looks to be the Birds' third-string quarterback behind Mike Kafka and Michael Vick going into the 2012 NFL season.
