Andres Nodl's Late Winner Lifts Flyers Over Islanders 2-1

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) – Andreas Nodl notched the game-winner late in the third period as Philadelphia nipped the New York Islanders, 2-1, at Nassau Coliseum.

Mike Richards picked up the other score and added one assist for the Flyers, winners of six in a row. Sergei Bobrovsky turned in another strong effort, making 31 saves for the win, his sixth straight positive decision.

Philadelphia has won 20 of its last 22 games over New York since the start of the 2007-08 season, including both matchups this year.

Matt Moulson notched the lone goal for the Islanders, who have lost seven straight games. Dwayne Roloson played well in defeat, stopping 24-of-26 shots and picking up an assist.

Nodl’s tally with 5:25 left in regulation gave Philly a 2-1 advantage. Eric Wellwood fired from the bottom of the left circle, and the shot caused Roloson to jump high but leave a rebound right in front, where Nodl swept it home.

Roloson was pulled for an extra skater with 1:32 to go, and Wellwood missed his chance at his first goal by shooting wide at an empty net. Seconds later, Bobrovsky was hit with a delay-of-game call for clearing the puck over the glass, giving the Isles a 6-on-4 advantage for the final 1:06.

However, the Flyers defense stood tall in front of their rookie goaltender on the advantage. Bobrovsky sealed off the left post to prevent a John Tavares poke from getting through in the final second of play.

The Flyers hit the scoreboard with 1:08 left in the first period, as Chris Pronger’s high right-point shot was deflected in by Richards from the top of the crease.

The Islanders countered with a power-play score by Moulson at the 7:31 mark of the second period, where the young forward picked up a loose puck off the left-wing boards along the goal line and managed to hit the net on the short side.

Philly has taken nine of the last 11 games in Uniondale…Richards extended his point streak to seven games, and has registered a point in seven of the last eight games…Second-year forward James van Riemsdyk was a healthy scratch in favor of Nodl…The Flyers play in Washington on Sunday.
