The Flyers finally made the sensible move and waived one of their three goaltenders. The guy who made the most sense to let go was Michael Leighton and that's what they did. Any team is now free to claim Leighton if they like, but if he clears waivers the Flyers will likely look to assign him to the Adirondak Phantoms.
↵As Broad Street Hockey points out, Leighton was the clear odd man out in the Flyers trio.
↵↵↵Looking at Boucher's body of work, Bob's body of work, and the fact that the Flyers are the best team in hockey without Leighton has to be what spurned this move. Combine that with the fact that the team couldn't be happy that Leighton hid an injury from them at the start of this past offseason and that Boucher is a much better locker room guy/mentor to Bobrovsky than Leighton and, well... there you go.

The move will save the Flyers $1.55 million against the cap.
