Are The Flyers Interested In Devils Captain Jamie Langenbrunner?

Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner was a healthy scratch tonight for the Devils and reports are that he's played his last game with the team. The veteran right winger has reportedly waived his no trade clause and is expected to be moved soon. Langenbrunner is 35 and in the final year of his contract which is due to pay him $2.8 million.

Reports suggest that the Flyers are among the teams interested in the former US national team captain's services. While Langenbrunner brings a wealth of cup winning experience, it remains to be seen what if anything else he'd have to offer this Flyers teams. He has just 14 points all season and while some of that can be attributed to the general awfulness that has been the Devils this season, you'd have to put a fair share of it on his age and declining skills. Still, his production this year has sharply declined from even his most recent seasons. So clearly he's got more to offer than what we've seen from him this year.

Broad Street Hockey opined that the Flyers could potentially swap the high scoring, but perennially Peter Laviolette's doghouse dwelling Nikolay Zherdev for Langenbrunner. But they also conceded that it's hard to see why the Devils would have any interest in that since Zherdev, who is only signed for one year, wouldn't be much help to a team looking to rebuild like New Jersey.
