Philadelphia Flyers are, well, flying … right past the Ottawa Senators tonight (Oct. 18, 2011) at the Scotiabank Place in Ontario.
The orange & black have turned Ottawa’s defense black & blue and lead the Senators 4-0 at the end of the first period.
Two of those goals came on the power play courtesy of Wayne Simmonds and Claude Giroux as Ottawa spent their fair share of time in the penalty box for boarding, high sticking and fighting.
Philadelphia’s Zac Rinaldo was also behind the glass for five minutes for his role in a scuffle with Senators’ center Zenon Konopka.
Matt Read got the party started with a 14-foot wrist shot at the 6:20 mark and Maxime Talbot closed out the first period by backhanding one in to put Philadelphia up 4-0.
Ottawa has its work cut out for them if they hope to keep this thing competitive and the defense will have to be a lot stingier than it has been in the first 20 minutes.
Stay tuned.
