NHL Rumors: Flyers Sign Defenseman Andreas Lilja

Andreas Lilja, formerly of the Anaheim Ducks, has signed a contract with the Flyers. According to TSN, Lilja's deal is years at $1.7 million. In 52 games last season, Lilja had 1 goal, 6 assists, and was a minus-15. Not very good numbers.

His cap hit is expected to be around $566k.

[Update by JasonB, 07/01/11 2:02 PM EDT ] Lilja played 52 games for the Anaheim Ducks last season. At 6-3, 220 he brings some size and a veteran presence to the back end of the Flyers defensive corps. He hasn't played all that many games over the past few seasons, but the Flyers aren't likely looking for 82 games out of him anyway.

Lilja likely fills the role veteran defenseman Sean O'Donnell who signed a one year deal with the Blackhawks. Given how old O'Donnell was, this actually is the Flyers getting younger.
