Flyers Trade Kris Versteeg To Florida Panthers For Draft Picks

The Flyers have dealt Kris Versteeg, who spent only a few largely disappointing months in Philadelphia, to the salary needy Florida Panthers for a second round pick in 2012 or 2013 and a third round pick in 2012.

As Broad Street Hockey points out, “the Flyers traded a first rounder and a third rounder for him at the deadline. Just saying.”

So the Flyers essentially paid the difference between a first and second round pick for not a lot of value in a playoffs run. What the move does do is free up around $3 million in cap space. That’s expected to in part be used to pay Wayne Simmonds, who is currently a restricted free agent and came over as part of the Mike Richards trade.

So that makes the exodus this year Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Ville Leino and Kris Versteeg. The significant names coming in have been Jaromir Jagr, Maxime Talbot, Ilya Bryzgalov, Braydon Schenn, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds.
