Man Who Threw Banana At Wayne Simmonds Gets Off Easy

I'm sure you remember the story of the guy who threw a banana at Wayne Simmonds, the Flyers lone black player, while the team played an exhibition game in London, Ontario? Police later found and arrested the man, but he got off with just a $200 fine when the prosecution said that they found "no evidence" that the incident was racially motivated.

Throwing bananas at black players is something that is sometimes seen in Eastern European soccer leagues and clearly meant to be racist attacks. However, 26 year old Christopher Moorhouse, who threw the banana, says he had no idea that throwing a banana would be seen as racist.

Now, I suppose it's hard to prove the motivation behind a person's actions... but it would seem to be one heck of a coincidence that this guy was just sitting at a hockey game, with a banana and hurled it at the only black player on the ice.

The $200 fine he was ordered to pay was for trespassing.
