The Flyers and Rangers are off to a fast start in the 2012 Winter Classic, but so far both teams have been held scoreless through one period. The Flyers got the majority of the best chances in the first period, but Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist was superb making 12 saves.
The Flyers two biggest chances came via breakaways from their two best scorers. The first came from Claude Giroux, who had the puck narrowly poked away with the butt end of Lundqvist’s stick.
The other came on a beautiful piece of play where Giroux found Jagr streaking with a one touch pass. Jagr then split the Ranger defense, deked, but saw Lundqvist save his backhanded shot.
The Flyers have had more energy and chances, but until they can solve Lundqvist, it won’t matter.
