The Philadelphia Flyers fell 4-1 to the New York Islanders on Jan. 19. Matt Read and Kimmo Timonen of the Flyers say they were outworked by the Islanders (via CSN Philly).
Read said the Islanders' "smart guys" took advantage on the penalty kill and were reading the passes of the Flyers, who were "complacent."
Timonen said that the Islanders were better yesterday in every aspect of the game, also stating "they skated better. They wanted it more." Timonen also said these types of games happen with a long season like the NHL has, but he isn't sure why. "We have to refocus and move on," he concluded.
Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette called the effort "unacceptable." He pointed to the first two periods to make his point. The Flyers were down 2-0 going into the third period of the game.
