James Van Riemsdyk Injury: Broken Foot Occurs Thursday Night Against Islanders

In Thursday night's game against the Islanders, James Van Riemsdyk broke a bone in his foot. The 23-year-old will be re-evaluated Friday.

This is not good news for Philadelphia Flyers fans and players alike.

In the first period of Thursday's game against the Islanders, James Van Riemsdyk attempted to block a Milan Jurcina shot and broke his foot, according to Philly.com.

Van Riemsdyk, 23, has had a very injury-plagued season. He missed 15 games earlier in the season after suffering a concussion and five more with an abdominal issue.

This is a bitter pill for Philly to swallow in such a heated playoff race. With Pittsburgh four points ahead of the Flyers and the Devils only one point back going into the night, all hands need to be on deck. With Van Riemsdyk potentially standing to miss substantial time, Philadelphia will need to pull together.

There hasn't been any timetable declared yet, as Van Riemsdyk will be re-evaluated Friday.

It's been a really challenging season all the way around for Van Riemsdyk, after signing a lucrative 6 year, 25.5 million dollar deal.
