The Philadelphia Flyers shook up their roster on Saturday, trading left wing James van Riemsdyk to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Luke Schenn, according to Darren Dreger of TSN. Van Riemsdyk had been subject of trade rumors for weeks leading up to this deal.
Schenn is a coveted 22-year old defenseman who tallied 22 points and 61 penalty minutes last season. He was selected fifth overall by Toronto in the 2008 NHL draft.
Heading to Toronto, van Riemsdyk will give the Maple Leafs a talented 23-year old wing. He had 24 points in 43 games last season and already has 99 career points in 196 career games.
Van Riemsdyk was selected by Philadelphia with the second overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft.
