Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers picked up a new award this week. The center picked up the Wanamaker Award, recognizing the top athlete in the city of Philadelphia.
↵The news came as something of a surprise to Giroux, who had to look up what exactly it was according to a report from Comcast SportsNet.
↵↵↵"It's bigger than I thought. It's a great honor to win this award. It's weird to see that Lindros never won and he had a lot of great years. I feel pretty lucky to win this."
↵
Giroux beat out Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence, among others, to earn the award. Giroux led the Flyers with 93 points last season, third-best in the NHL and the first Flyer to hit that mark since Eric Lindros in 1998-1999.
