Flyers Offseason 2012: Laviolette Close To Contract Extension

Philadelphia Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette is expected to sign a contract extension in the next week according to a report from Sam Carchidi of Philly.com.

Carchidi spoke with Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren and said that the two sides are in talks and a deal could happen as early as this weekend. Holmgren told Carchidi that an extension was imminent for Laviolette after the season, but Philadelphia's activity during the free agency period pushed talks to the back burner.

Laviolette has guided the Flyers to the playoffs in each of his three seasons in charge, and led the Flyers to the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. The Flyers have exited the playoffs in the Eastern Conference semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
