The city of Philadelphia has two major athletes who are combating dog fighting. We all know Michael Vick has become the national face of the crusade against dog fighting, however Chase Utley has been speaking out. According Utley's wife Jennifer, the city probably needs both.
↵"Philadelphia has some of the highest rates of dog fighting in the nation," she said. "We're getting more calls than ever and, hopefully, it's because more people are reporting animal abuse and not that the abuse is increasing."
↵No doubt the Utley's have had some impact, but the increase in people reporting dog fighting can be directly tied to the arrival of Michael Vick in town. While no one would doubt the Utley's sincerity like some do with Vick, dog lovers can't deny that's since he's gotten out of prison Michael Vick has probably saved a lot of dog's lives.
↵Of course, maybe you give the Utley's a little extra credit for not having to go to prison before they learned to respect animals...
