The USA Today took a look at three NL East prospects that may be "flying under the radar." These guys may not be in Baseball America's top 100 prospects list, but very well may bear some watching. One of these such prospects is the Phillies' 20 year old shortstop Freddie Galvis.
↵His line at AA Reading last season wasn't particularly impressive on its face hit .233 and posted an OBP of just .276. Still, as the article points out he was young for AA, so there's reason to believe that as he fills out, he'll fare better against older, more advanced competition. The USA Today article highlighted a specific area of optimism for Galvis, namely that he's got a good eye.
↵↵↵"However, over those 138 games, he walked 30 times, while whiffing just 89 -- which means Galvis is not a free-swinger, but one who has some patience and makes decent contact. Since he was younger than most of his leaguemates, it is reasonable to think that as Galvis fills out, he will add some muscle, and even a better batting eye. Coupled with his good speed, Galvis has some serious potential. Oh yes, he committed only 11 errors over 624 chances in 2010."
