Roy Halladay Tosses Complete Game As Phillies Beat Nationals 3-2

Roy Halladay dominated the Nationals over 8 innings but despite running out of steam in the ninth, held on for the 3-2 win.

Coming into the inning at about 100 pitches, Halladay allowed a leadoff double to Rick Ankiel. After Jayson Werth singled and put runners at the corners with none out, Doc struck out Adam LaRoche. After Lance Nix singled to drive home a run, Charlie Manuel trotted out to seemingly bring in Jose Contreras. However, he opted to leave in Halladay, who promptly allowed a single by Danny Espinosa to make the game 3-2 with one out.

However, Doc would bounce back and strikeout both Matt Stairs and Ivan Rodriguez to end the threat. His final line on the night was 9 IP, 2 ER and 9 Ks.

Ben Francisco drove in Jimmy Rollins in the fourth for the first run of the game. Placido Polanco has two hits and a walk on the night including an RBI single in the fifth. The Phils’ other run came when Nationals starter John Lannan hit Ryan Howard with the bases loaded.

The series is even at a game a piece with Cliff Lee set to go tomorrow in the rubber game.
