Phillies Vs Mets: Phils Look To Bounce Back With Blanton On The Hill

The Phillies will send their fifth starter, Joe Blanton, to face the Mets #1 Mike Pelfrey in the second game of three game set at Citizens Bank Park. Blanton has performed well against the Mets going 3-1 with a 2.64 ERA. Pelrey has been ok against the Phils going 6-4 with a 4.52 ERA in 13 career starts.

Pelfrey will look to overcome a poor start on opening day where he allowed five runs and four walks in four and and third innings.

The Phillies dropped the opening game of the series after a poor start from Cole Hamels who allowed 7 hits, was charged with 6 earns runs and couldn't get out of the third inning. The Phils bats were silenced by Chris Young, who made his Mets debut after spending the last two seasons mostly on the DL. Young struck out seven over his five innings of work, but also gave up five hits and walked four. The Phillies really should have been able to get more than a run off the Mets starter.

Ryan Howard, who has gotten off to a hot start, went 0-4 with three strikeouts and left five men on base.
