Cliff Lee lasted on 3 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits and three runs as the Phillies dropped the opener of their three game set with Atlanta 6-3. It was a rough one-two punch for Phillies fans tonight as the Flyers blew a third period lead and lost in overtime just about fifteen minutes or so before the Phillies failed to mount a rally and lost to the Braves.
But hey, the Sixers won…
The Phillies jumped up early taking a three run lead into the bottom of the second, but the Braves would plate six runs charged to Lee in the bottom of the second and fourth. Meanwhile, Braves starter Tim Hudson settled in for 7.2 innings of solid work to get the win.
Chipper Jones recorded his 2,500th hit in the game. The 39 year old was playing in his 2,269th career game.
The one bright spot for the Phils tonight is the continued fantastic relief that’s been provided by Antonio Bastardo so far this season. He struck out the side in two consecutive innings tonight and has yet to allow a run this season. In 4.1 innings of work this year, Bastardo has struck out nine and allowed two hits.
The teams are back at it tomorrow for a 1pm matinee with Roy Oswalt taking on Brandon Beachy.
