Carlos Ruiz had a career high 5 RBI despite the fact that he only entered the game in the 7th inning. It was his pinch hit grand slam in the 7th that blew the game wide open and helped the Phillies to a 10-2 win in the second game of a three set game set in Atlanta.
The 7th inning also saw Charlie Manuel seemingly out-maneuver his counterpart Fredi Gonzalez. After Raul Ibanez led off the inning with a double, Gonzalez pulled the righty Beachy to send lefty George Sherrill to face Brian Schneider. However, Manuel pulled Schneider in favor of righty John Mayberry who got his fourth pinch hit of the season with a single to left. Sherrill would then walk Wilson Valdez to load the bases and Manuel sent out Carlos Ruiz to pinch hit for Roy Oswalt. Gonzalez countered with Scott Linebrink, who quickly surrendered Chooch's grand slam.
Roy Oswalt got his first regular season win over the Braves and has now recorded a win over every team in the National League. Lil' Roy went six innings with a couple strikeouts and was charged with just one earned run.
Shane Victorino had four hits today, making for his 4th straight multi hit game from top of the order. The Phillies bullpen had another fantastic day as David Herndon, J.C. Romero and Danys Baez combined for three innings of scoreless relief and allowing just one hit.
Cole Hamels takes the hill tomorrow in the rubber game of the series as he tries to overcome his poor first start.
