Cliff Lee is winless in his last four starts despite pitching pretty well in all four. The problem has been the Phillies offense, or more specifically, the nearly stunning lack thereof. In his last three outings, Lee has not gotten single run of support. Not one.
That’s crazy you might say? That can’t be true right? Sadly, it is all too real. His last outing was the 5-0 shutout by the Braves were he went 7IP and struck out 16. Then there was the Bin Laden game 14 inning loss to the Mets when Lee again went seven innings and allowed one run. The Phillies did score a single run in that game, but not until Lee was out in the 8th. The third game was when Diamondbacks’ Ian Kennedy three hit the Phils en route to a 4-0 shut out.
So seriously… can Cliff Lee get a run or maybe two in support? He really might not need much more.
Of course, tonight may not bode well for the Phils offense with Ricky Nolasco on the hill for the Marlins. Nolasco has pitched very well against the Phillies going 5-1 with a 2.92 ERA over his previous seven starts against them.
Last night was a good pitching duel and it appears as though tonight has the makings of yet another…
