Phillies Sign OF Scott Posednik To Minor League Deal

The Phillies have announced that they've signed former White Sox outfielder Scott Posednik to a minor league deal. He was last with the Blue Jays organization and hit .254 with with their AAA affiliate in Las Vegas. He reportedly asked for his release about 20 days ago and was granted it.

He played with both the Royals and Dodgers last season, but was lost in September with a case of plantar fasciitis. The same plantar fasciitis acted up for him this spring with the Blue Jays.

What, if anything it means for the Phillies remains to be seen. For now, it's expected that he'll report to Lehigh Valley and will probably just continue to get at bats until the Phillies need another outfielder or he possibly gets dealt. With Shane Victorino out for another 10 days or so, really no one in the Phillies outfield is hitting. Michael Martinez has a sub .200 average, Ben Francisco is hitting .216, John Mayberry is at .231, and Raul Ibanez is at .232. Really no one has any reason to feel like their job is safe.
