Wilson Valdez started Wednesday night's Phillies vs Reds game at second base. He finished that game in the 19th inning on the mound as a pitcher, where he retired the heart of the Reds order and got the win when Raul Ibanez sacrificed home Jimmy Rollins in the bottom of the inning.
↵According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last player to start a game in the field and earn a win was Babe Ruth on October 1, 1921. He started in left field for the Yankees that day.
↵Valdez also became the first position player to record a win since 2000.
↵Just another amazing stat from an amazing night down at Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 in 19 innings. It was the longest game in Citizens Bank Park history and the longest game for the Phillies since 1993 when they beat the Dodgers in 20 innings.
