Phillies Vs Braves: Top Prospect Julio Teheran Faces Kyle Kendrick

Originally, game two of the Phillies vs Braves weekend series at Citizens Bank Park was supposed to feature Roy Oswalt taking on Jair Jurrens. However, Oswalt went to the DL, the Braves played a double header on Wednesday and so the game will now feature Kyle Kendrick taking on Atlanta’s top prospect Julio Teheran.

Because of their doubleheader on Wednesday, the Braves would have had to send one of their starters to the hill Sunday on short rest. Instead, they’ve opted to call up the 10th ranked prospect in the minors, Teheran, for a spot start. So far, the 20 year old is 3-0 with 1.80 ERA in five starts at AAA.

Teheran is only up for this one start and has been told he will be immediately sent back to the minors regardless of how it gos.

Kyle Kendrick will make the spot start for the Phillies after spending the season so far in the bullpen. He took the loss the in the extra inning, Osama Bin Laden is dead game against the Mets on Monday. Kendrick has been surprisingly good against Atlanta going 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA in nine career starts.
