Nationals 2, Phillies 1: Phils Offense Disappears Again

In their previous 13 games against John Lannan, the Phillies had never lost to the lefty and hit him to the tune of a 6.44 ERA. This afternoon, in temperatures over 90 degrees, Lannan allowed four hits over five and 1/3 innings, walking three but allowing just one unearned run.

The Nats bullpen combo of Todd Coffey, Doug Slaten, Tyler Clippard and Drew Storen held the Phillies to one hit and no runs over the last 3+ innings. Roy Oswalt allowed two runs over five innings, including a home run to Laynce Nix in the third that proved to be the game winner.

This was the Phillies’ 20th game in as many days and the team will get a much needed day off tomorrow before traveling to Pittsburgh for a three game set with the Pirates. That series will conclude a nine game road trip by the Phils.
