Cole Hamels Shuts Down Padres As Phillies Win 3-1

Cole Hamels struck out 10 over eight innings of three hit ball en route to his twelfth win of the year as the Phillies beat the Padres 3-1 at Citizens’ Bank Park. Hamels is now tied with the BravesJair Jurrjens for MLB lead with 12 wins.

Hamels didn’t need much run support and didn’t get either. The Phils managed only six hits on the night, but RBI doubles form Carlos Ruiz and John Mayberry Jr. along with a run scoring balk were enough.

It was 80s night at the ballpark and frankly… neither team looked particularly cool on the scorching hot night. The Phils wore their 80s era maroon pinstripes, while the Padres donned their retro brown, yellow and orange combo uniforms. At least it’s only 80s night once…

The Phillies still hold the best record in baseball (62-36) and are a season-high 26 games over .500. Kyle Kendrick will take the hill tomorrow afternoon as the Phils look for their sixth straight win over the Padres this season.
