Phillies 5, Padres 3: Heat Can't Beat Halladay Again

Roy Halladay made his first start this afternoon since being pulled from Monday’s game in Chicago with heat exhaustion. With temperatures in the mid 90s today, all eyes were on Roy to see if he could stand the heat this time around. The answer was yes.

Halladay gave up two earned run over eight innings, striking out eight to tie the national leauge lead with his 12th win. It was the Phillies 10th straight win over the Padres and seventh straight this season. Antonio Bastardo pitched a perfect ninth for his 8th save.

The offense came from Raul Ibanez and Carlos Ruiz who each knocked in a pair of runs. Ruiz has quietly put together a 10 game hitting stream. Ryan Howard also seems to be breaking out of his post all star game slump with a 2-4 day and 2 runs scored.

Cliff Lee takes the hill tomorrow in Monday matinee as the Phillies look to sweep the Padres in a four game series for the second time this year.
