The Phillies announced today that SS Jimmy Rollins has been placed on the DL with a grade two strain of his right groin, suffered last night against the Nationals. The good news is that Placido Polanco has been activated from the DL and will presumably resume his duties at third with Wilson Valdez sliding over to short stop.

Charlie Manuel said today that he wasn't sure when Rollins was injured, but as David Murphy points out, it certainly seemed to after a nice play during the second inning of last night's game.

Yesterday, after chasing down a groundball up the middle in the second inning and making a spinning throw to first, the Gold Glove shortstop grimaced in apparent pain. Rollins finished the frame in the field, but was replaced prior to the start of the third.

Rollins is in the midst of a really good season hitting .268 with 14 HR, 22 doubles and 79 runs scored. He's also stolen 28  bases and played his typical solid defensive SS. Shane Victorino will bat leadoff in his place.

Jimmy actually announced this trip to the DL on twitter.
