Former Phillie Jamie Moyer, who at this point you would have to assume will just never stop pitching, has reportedly been offered a minor league deal by the Colorado Rockies and will be invited to the team's Spring Training. Moyer last pitched in the majors two years ago and missed all of last season after having Tommy John surgery.
↵And now, at 49 years old, he's giving it yet another go.
↵As CSNPhilly points out, Jamie Moyer has pitched in the majors since 1986, which is longer than the Colorado Rockies have even existed. The Rockies were formed seven years after his debut.
↵"I think I can start and help someone win," said Moyer back in October. "I know I'm healthy, but saying it doesn't prove anything. You writing it wouldn't prove anything. So I'll have to prove it to anyone who has interest."
↵↵
"I've heard I'm too old, too slow - there are always people with negative assumptions. But I've also heard from a lot of people my age who think what I'm trying to do is pretty cool - people who work for a living and go to gyms and try to stay competitive in whatever they do.
↵"If I can help them keep a focus, great," Moyer said. "I appreciate their encouragement."
