Philadelphia Phillies send Michael Martinez to Triple-A

The Philadelphia Phillies outrighted infielder Micahel Martinez down to their Triple-A affiliate Lehigh Valley.

The Philadelphia Phillies outrighted Michael Martinez off the 40-man roster and down to their Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Martinez, 30, has played in both the outfield and infield for the Philadelphia Phillies over the last two seasons. Last season he appeared in 45 games for the Phillies logging 115 at-bats. He hit .174 with two home runs, seven RBIs and 10 runs.

Martinez joined the Phillies in 2011 and appeared in 88 games that season. Last season Martinez began the year on the DL after breaking his foot in spring training. He was called up to the Phillies in June, but sent back down when Chase Utley was ready to return. Martinez got called up once more in August.

The Phillies finished last season 81-81 and third place in the NL East. It was the first year they missed the postseason since the 2006 season and their worst record since 2002.
