Phillies interested in Vernon Wells

The Philadelphia Phillies are rumored to be interested in Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells and are still in pursuit of free agent outfielder Cody Ross.

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to add a right-handed outfielder and are rumored to be interested in Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells as well as free agent Cody Ross.

Wells spent the last two seasons with the Angels after playing several years with the Blue Jays. The addition of Josh Hamilton made Wells expendable for the Angels. Wells has $42 million left on his contract that runs through 2014, but the Angels would be expected to pick up the majority of that cost in any trade for Wells. Last season, he hit .230 with 11 home runs in 77 games and posted a .682 OPS.

The Phillies have been tied to Ross for some time now, but the free agent is rumored to have many interested suitors. Last season with the Red Sox, Ross hit .267 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs, with a .807 OPS over 130 games.
