Phillies 3, Marlins 1: Joe Blanton Powers Phils To Series Win

Joe Blanton threw 7 innings of 1-run, 3-hit ball as the Phillies beat the Marlins 3-1 in the rubber game the series at Citizens Bank Park Thursday night.

It was really a feel good night for Blanton, who spent most of last season on the DL and was more or less the forgotten man in the Phils’ rotation this season. When he was talked about, it mostly in trade discussions. At least for this night though, Blanton fit right in with the Phillies cadre of aces.

On the offensive side the Phillies used a forgotten method of generating runs… hitting the ball out of the park. Solo homers from Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton accounted for 2/3rds of the Phils offense tonight.

Jonathon Papelbon came on in the 9th for his second save of the season.

The Phillies are back to .500 for the season. Cliff Lee will take the hill tomorrow night as the Phils welcome the New York Mets to town for the first of a three game weekend series.
