Laynce Nix Injury: Phillies Place Nix On 15-Day DL, Call Up Three Players

The Philadelphia Phillies put first baseman/outfielder Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a calf strain. The Phillies also called up three players from Triple-A Lehigh Valley: Jake Diekman, Raul Valdes and Hector Luna (via CSN Philly).

Nix had played in 22 games this season for Philadelphia and was hitting .326 with 2 homers and 11 RBI. Diekman and Valdes are both left-handed relievers while Luna is an infielder who has also played in left field. Of the trio, only Diekman is making his first trip up to the major leagues. He said about the call-up:

"It's surreal," he said standing in the Phillies' clubhouse Friday afternoon. "Two years ago I didn't think this would happen. I don't know if I'll feel anything the first time I run in from the bullpen."

To make room on the roster for the players who were called up, the Phillies sent pitcher Brian Sanches to Triple-A and moved pitcher Justin De Fratus to the 60-day disabled list.
