Phillies Vs. Padres Score: Phillies Beat Padres 7-3, Start Series Off Right

After being swept by the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to move on and show a little flash in beating the San Diego Padres 7-3 Friday night. The offensive struggles faded, at least for one night. With Ryan Howard and Chase Utley both on the disabled list, Philadelphia has had trouble backing up their pitchers with any offensive support. Carlos Ruiz led the way in making sure that wasn't the case, going 3-3 with a walk and collecting 3 RBI on two singles and a home run. John Mayberry had a home run and three RBI of his own, and Freddy Galvis picked up the remaining run on a double to deep left in the bottom of the sixth.

Clayton Hill's losing streak now stretches to five starts, and the Padres offense isn't doing their pitching staff any favors either. The Padres were able to score two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth, but Philadelphia's Vance Worley kept things in check, striking out nine over six innings. Antonio Bastardo pitched two hitless innings, and Chad Qualls closed things out. The Phillies host two more games against the Padres, with Saturday's game taking place at 7:05pm.
