Phillies Vs. Red Sox: Jonathan Papelbon Records The Save As Phils Win 6-4

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Boston Red Sox 6-4 in game one of their three game interleague series Friday Night. They got to Daniel Bard early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth and never giving up the lead. Cole Hamels pitched seven innings for Philadelphia, giving up three runs on six hits. He struck out nine batters and walked only one over 113 pitches.

Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence all drew walks in the bottom of the first, setting up Carlos Ruiz to pick up a pair of RBI on a single, Ty Wigginton to collect one on a sacrifice fly, and John Mayberry Jr. to add another with a double to left. Pence and Fred Galvis added solo home runs in the fifth and eighth innings, respectively, and that was enough to hold off the Red Sox. Jonathan Papelbon got the save against his former team, giving up one hit and no runs in a 10 pitch ninth. Game two of the series is Saturday night at 7:15pm.
