Phillies Vs Cardinals Recap: Philadelphia Beats St. Louis 5-3 In Extra Innings

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 Friday night, winning the game in the top of the 10th. Cliff Lee was denied his first win of the season but he did manage to avoid an 0-3 record, exiting the game after the 7th with the score tied 3-3.

Philadelphia scored first, getting two runs in the top of the second inning from an RBI single from Jimmy Rollins and with Freddy Galvis scoring after an error by Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams. St. Louis answered back with one run in the bottom of the second on a Shane Robinson RBI double. They added two more in the third and fourth with a Rafael Furcal solo home run and an RBI single by Yadier Molina. That left the Phillies trailing until the top of the seventh, when Juan Pierre picked up an RBI with a double to deep center.

Things were tied at 3 until the top of the tenth, when Juan Pierre led off with a single and Hunter Pence followed him with a home run. With Phildelphia's on top 5-3. Jonathan Papelbon took the hill for Phildelphia. He retired the side in order, getting Carlos Beltran on a fly out to left, struck out David Freese, and retired Yadier Molina on a groundout to third.

With the win the Phillies move above .500 to 24-23 and leads 2-0 in the four game series with the Cardinals. Game three is scheduled for 7:15pm Saturday.
