Phillies Vs. Braves: Joe Blanton Blanks Atlanta In 4-0 Complete Game Shutout Win

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves, 4-0, on May 3 in the final game of a three-game series at Turner Field in Atlanta. The win gave the Phillies a 2-1 win in the series.

The Phillies had a dominating complete game shutout performance of the Braves from Joe Blanton. Blanton needed just 88 pitches to get the win. Blanton struck out six batters and only allowed three hits on the day (all singles). Randall Delgado went eight innings for the Braves and took the loss. Delgado allowed two earned runs on six hits and struck out five. Neither team drew a walk during the game.

The Phillies drew blood in the first inning when Jimmy Rollins scored on a Hunter Pence sacrifice fly. Laynce Nix hit a solo shot off of Delgado in the seventh inning. Shane Victorino homered off of Livan Hernandez in the ninth inning which also scored Juan Pierre.

The win for Blanton improved his record to 3-3 on the season. It was the first shutout for the right-hander since 2007.
