Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Jim Thome and infielder Michael Martinez will begin rehab assignments Friday night with Single-A Clearwater, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com.
Thome has made 21 plate appearances over 12 games this season with the Phillies, hitting .111 with zero home runs and zero RBI.
Martinez has yet to play for the Phillies this year after suffering a broken foot during spring training. He batted .196 last season over 88 games and 234 plate appearances with three home runs and 24 RBI.
The Phillies begin a three-game set with the Miami Marlins Friday night.
