Phillies Sad Stat Of The Week

The Phillies gave Jonathon Papelbon a contract this offseason that guaranteed him $50 million. He is quite clearly the best pitcher in their bullpen. So you may think that he would be used in the most important situations that the bullpen faces right?

Wrong.

Somewhat remarkably, [the Phillies] have suffered seven walk-off defeats without using Papelbon in any of them.

Here are the relievers who have pitched at the end of those seven games: Joe Blanton, David Herndon, Antonio Bastardo, Brian Sanches, Michael Schwimer, B. J. Rosenberg and Savery. To be polite, it is an unproven bunch.

But if the Phillies are up by 3 in the 9th inning at home... then call in Pap!
