Jose Contreras Injury Update: Pitcher Has UCL And Flexor Tears

It was earlier reported that Jose Contreras was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. Now, according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, the Philadelphia Phillies reliever has officially suffered a season-ending injury.

Official word on contreras is UCL tear and flexor tear. Very serious. Season ending ... Contreras has torn the Tommy John ligament. Tough break. Good man worked hard to get back.

Contreras has pitched well for the Phillies out of the bullpen this season – despite his high ERA of 5.27. He's been the victim of bad luck on the field, inflating his ERA, and it now appears he's suffered a bit of bad luck, off the field. At 40 years old, it may be tough for Contreras to return from this serious of an injury.
