Phillies Vs. Rays: Thome Hits Walk-Off Home Run In Win

After Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save of the season, Jim Thome hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Phillies a 7-6 lead over the Rays.

With the Phillies trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Jimmy Rollins hit a two-run home run off James Shields to get Philadelphia on the board. The home run was the sixth of the year for Rollins.

In the next inning, Juan Pierre hit a three-run bomb to give the Phillies a 5-3 lead. It was the first home run of the season for Pierre and only the 17th of his career.

With the Phillies leading 6-4 in the top of the ninth, Philadelphia brought in Papelbon, who was perfect in save opportunities in 2012. However, he surrendered two runs and the game was tied on a Brooks Conrad single with two outs.

Thome led off the game in the bottom of the ninth and hit a home run off Jake McGee for the win.

The Phillies and Rays will play a doubleheader on Sunday.
