Phillies Vs. Rays Final Score: Despite Strong Outing By Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Falls 3-2

The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2, in the first game of a doubleheader between the teams on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies won the first game of the three-game set on Saturday after it was postponed from Friday.

This game was a pitcher's duel. Unfortunately for Cole Hamels, he didn't get a win or even a decision despite being the better starter. Jimmy Rollins hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to give the Phillies the lead. With one swing of the bat Carlos Pena plated three runs for the Rays in the eighth on his homer. Ty Wigginton hit an RBI single in the eighth but the Phillies couldn't get the game tied.

Cole Hamels got the start for the Phillies and went seven innings. Hamels gave up three hits and zero earned runs while striking out seven batters and walking three. Antonio Bastardo gave up three earned runs in relief on Pena's three-run home run. He also walked two batters before the homer in picking up the loss and a blown save. David Price got the win for Tampa Bay, going seven innings and giving up four hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out eight batters. Fernando Rodney slammed the door on the Phillies in the ninth, striking out two batters and allowing one hit in the save.

The second game of the doubleheader will star at 6:35 p.m. The Phillies are expected to start Cliff Lee (0-3, 3.48 ERA) while the Rays are anticipated to counter with Alex Cobb (3-3, 3.82 ERA).
