Phillies Vs. Pirates Final Score: Carlos Ruiz Powers Philadelphia To 5-4 Win Tuesday

The Philadelphia Phillies took Game 2 of their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park. Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4 at the plate, including an eighth inning home run to put the Phillies up 5-3. Vance Worley (4-4) was given the win after giving up three earned runs off six hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Ruiz put the Phillies on the board in first inning with a single to score Hunter Pence, who had reached third base on a triple. Ruiz ran in another run in the third off a Ty Wigginton two-run home run to left field that put the Phillies up 4-1. The Pirates' Erik Bedard (4-8) left the mound after six innings having given up four earned runs off eight hits and two walks. He struck out three.

The Pirates got on the board in the second inning on a Michael McKenry sac fly scoring Pedro Alvarez. Worley gave up the Pirates third run with no outs in the seventh off a Drew Sutton double before being relieved by Michael Schwimer.

Ruiz' 10th home run of the season would prove to be a clincher. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 18th save of the season in the ninth, but not before giving up a solo home run to McKenry. The Pirates catcher finished 3-for-3 on the night.
