Chase Utley Status: Philadelphia Phillies Activate 2B From 15-Day DL To Play Vs. Pirates

The Philadelphia Phillies will finally have second baseman Chase Utley back in the lineup on Wednesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The team activated Utley from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday afternoon. In order to add Utley back into the lineup (he will bat third), the Phils optioned infielder Michael Martinez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley (via MLB).

Utley has missed the entire 2012 season so far with a knee problem (bilateral chondromalacia). In rehab stints, Utley played nine games for Class-A Clearwater and one game Lehigh Valley.

Last season, Utley hit .259 with 11 homers, 44 RBI and 39 walks in 103 games. Martinez struggled at the MLB level and only hit .133 with a home run and 4 RBI in 16 games for Philadelphia this season.
