Phillies 3, Dodgers 2: Ryan Howard's First Home Run Of Season Propels Philadelphia

Slowly, the Philadelphia Phillies are getting healthy. And late Monday night was a perfect example of what a healthy roster can lead to for the Phils' who defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2, at Dodgers Stadium.

First basemen Ryan Howard, who was playing in just his sixth game of the season, belted the would-be, game-winning, solo home run in the top of the fourth inning -- his first of the season -- to help the Phillies take Game 1 of the three-game series. Philadelphia are winners of three straight games for the first time since late May.

Starting pitcher Joe Blanton (8-8) allowed two runs on six hits in eight innings to earn the win. Outfielder Juan Pierre collected a run-scoring single in the second inning, while shortstop Jimmy Rollins hit a solo home run in the third.
