The MLB trade deadline strategy for the Philadelphia Phillies is becoming clear -- sell. So far, the Phillies have dealt outfielder Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers, are working on sending Hunter Pence to the San Francisco Giants and now are rumored to be trying to work out a trade involving their pitcher Joe Blanton, who could be shipped to the Baltimore Orioles.
Elsewhere, a deal that would send starter Joe Blanton to the Orioles is still possible, but two hurdles remain. There's the remainder of Blanton's salary that needs to be picked up -- $2.9 million -- and the level of prospects the Phils will receive in return.
If Blanton does go to the Orioles prior to the MLB's non-waiver trade deadline (4 p.m. ET) it seems a lot of issues will need to be solved before then.
